How Often Should Your Child Get an Eye Exam?

The Alberta Association of Optometrists recommends that your child gets an eye exam according to the following schedule:

Once between the ages of 6–9 months
Once between the ages of 2–5 years

Yearly from ages 6–19

What Can We Detect During an Eye Exam?

During an eye exam at Royal Vista Eyecare , we take the time to get to know your child and their unique vision needs.

We’ll take an in-depth look at their entire visual system to determine if they have any vision or eye issues. If they do, we will create a customized treatment plan to help get their vision back on track.

We check for a variety of eye conditions, including:

Myopia (nearsightedness)
Hyperopia (farsightedness)
Astigmatism
Amblyopia (lazy eye)
Strabismus (crossed eyes)
Eye coordination issues

Eye See… Eye Learn

At Royal Vista Eyecare, we participate in the Eye See . . . Eye Learn™ program. This program is designed to ensure that all kindergarten-aged children in Alberta have access to the eye care they need.

As part of the program, any child who gets a comprehensive eye exam and requires eye glasses will be provided with a free pair.

Royal Vista Eyecare is located in Royal Oak Place, which is right on the corner of Country Hills Boulevard NW and Royal Birch Boulevard NW.
