Dry Eye

Treatments

We use anterior segment photography and meibography to efficiently diagnose dry eye disease. Once we know the cause of your dry eye, we can recommend a treatment.

Artificial Tears

The most common treatment for patients with mild dry eyes are eye drops, or artificial tears. Artificial tears can supply your eyes with the proper lubrication they need to function. Depending on your needs, you can get artificial tears with or without a prescription. At Royal Vista Eyecare, we carry Imed and Thealoz drops to support our patients with dry eye disease.

Meibomian Gland Expression

Meibomian gland dysfunction is a common cause of dry eye disease. Meibomian gland dysfunction occurs when the gland becomes blocked, which affects tear production.

Meibomian gland expression is a process performed by your optometrist where they lightly massage and squeeze the glands. This helps them excrete hardened oils that prevent healthy oils from entering your eye as they should.

Eye Masks

Eye masks and compresses can help ease dry eye symptoms by boosting eye hydration, reducing tear evaporation, increasing oil production, and reducing inflammation.

While there are a number of eye masks available, we recommend and carry two specific brands: the I-RELIEF therapy mask and the Bruder moist heat eye compress.

Omega-3 supplements

In some cases, dry eyes can be a result of inflammation caused by a lack of omega-3. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid that contributes to good occular health. While omega-3 intake can be increased by adding certain foods to your diet, sometimes the easiest way to do it is by taking Omega-3 supplements.

At Royal Vista Eyecare, we carry Nutrasea and PRN omega-3 supplements for our patients with dry eyes.

ZEST

Zocular Eyelid System Treatment, or ZEST for short, is a treatment for dry eye caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. ZEST works by gently exfoliating the eyelids to release oils and debris from the meibomian glands.

This process helps restore your tears back to their normal function, reducing the symptoms of dry eye.
